This week we’re in southern Spain, where the grass is green, the wine is cold, and golf season never ends. The Costa del Sol is home to over 70 courses, from world-famous layouts like Valderrama to coastal tracks you can play in flip flops. It’s sun-soaked, well-fed, and beautifully unbothered.

Next Tuesday I will be scouting for properties near Bandon Dunes, the most spectacular golf resort in the US on the dramatic Pacific coastline.

Destination Introduction: The Costa del Sol, Spain
Referred to by many as the Costa del Golf.
The courses are close together, well maintained, and open year round. You move from one to the next without fuss. Valderrama sits quietly among the cork oaks. Finca Cortesín runs high along the hills. La Cala flows over ridgelines with long views out to the water.
This is golf that works. Good turf. Predictable weather. Just enough breeze. There’s variety too, some courses built for tour players, others for people who want to play well and finish by lunch.
And the setting does its part. Coastal light. Dry air. A rhythm to the day that feels easy to fall into.

The Costa del Sol didn’t become Europe’s golfing capital by accident.
It works because the conditions are reliable. You can play almost every day of the year, and plenty of people do.
The infrastructure helps. The roads are good. The service is professional. You can move between clubs, towns, and restaurants without stress. Marbella gets the attention. Sotogrande gets the repeat visitors.
At the top end, the golf is serious. Valderrama and Finca Cortesín are tournament-ready. But there’s space for slower rounds too with plenty of resort courses, practice grounds and short loops. It suits professionals and people on their fifth round of the week equally well.
What holds it together is rhythm. Good golf. No fuss. A climate built for early tee times and evenings that take their time.
Next Tuesday I will be scouting for properties near Bandon Dunes, the most spectacular golf resort in the US on the dramatic Pacific coastline.
Have a great week.
